At Aims, civic engagement is defined broadly and encompasses service and volunteerism, advocacy in or outside of political spheres, voter engagement and education, and overall connection and contribution to communities. The Civic Engagement Council is dedicated to increasing student civic engagement and learning at Aims and in the local community. Civic Engagement Distinction
The Aims Community College Civic Engagement Distinction recognizes students who actively build the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to become active, civic-minded leaders. Through engagement in education, service, and advocacy initiatives, students develop the transferable skills to make informed decisions, navigate systems, and collaborate for positive change. Students learn to identify and take responsibility for problems in their communities, and embrace a collective approach to solving them.
