Creating Accessible Lists

When creating content for the web or using software such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, it's important to know when and how to create a bulleted or numbered list. By grouping content in this way, people using screen readers can more easily access.

The Aims website and the most commonly used word processing and design software include bulleted and numbered list features in their menus.

In general, there are two main types of lists to know about: ordered and unordered.

  • Ordered lists include step-by-step instructions that need to happen in a certain order. Use a numerical list for ordered lists.
  • Unordered lists do not need to happen in order. Use a bulleted list for unordered lists.
