Aims Students Share Global Learning Experiences at Inaugural Study Abroad Showcase
Join us on July 9 for highlights from students who participated in the college's first-ever study abroad program to Ireland. The drop-in event takes place from 2–4 p.m. in Student Commons Room 114 on the Aims Greeley Campus. Students, employees, community members and prospective study abroad participants are invited to attend and learn how international experiences can enrich academic, personal and professional growth.
The showcase features poster presentations from members of the cohort who traveled to Ireland from June 4-16, as part of the first-ever study abroad program. Through photos, reflections and project displays, students will share insights gained from exploring Irish history, culture and communities while earning college credit abroad.
“Aims launched the study abroad program to provide community college students with the same transformative global opportunities available at four-year institutions,” said Jennifer Markiewicz, Aims professor of business and one of the leaders behind the initiative. “The showcase gives students an opportunity to reflect on their experiences while inspiring others to consider studying abroad.”
During the two-week experience, students traveled throughout Ireland, including Dublin, Bundoran and Derry, while participating in coursework connected to archaeology, psychology, history, mythology and more. The program combined classroom learning with visits to archaeological sites, museums and culturally significant locations.
According to Markiewicz, the study abroad initiative was developed to help students build connections, expand their cultural awareness and gain skills that employers increasingly value. Less than 2% of study abroad participants nationwide come from community colleges, making programs like Aims’ particularly impactful.
Attendees at the showcase will have the opportunity to speak directly with students about their experiences, learn about the application process and discover future study abroad opportunities at Aims. Summer 2027 programs offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while exploring the vibrant cultures of Ireland and Japan through short-term trips.
