First-Time Students Encouraged to Enroll by August 1 to Qualify for New Aims Scholarship

The Strong Start Scholarship, launching this fall, is designed to reduce financial barriers for students beginning their college journey. To receive the award, eligible students must be first-time college students, enroll in at least six credit hours toward a degree or certificate program and reside in the Aims Community College tax district, including most of Weld County.
“Programs like Strong Start make Aims virtually tuition-free for a very large population we serve,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Larry Pakowski.
Unlike traditional financial aid programs, the Strong Start Scholarship does not require a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) submission or proof of income. Students can apply for additional financial aid to cover extra costs. Recipients get half of the award in the fall and the remainder in the spring of their first year at Aims. These funds will be applied to the student bill for the semester.

The Strong Start Scholarship is a testament to Aims' commitment to reducing financial barriers and promoting academic achievement. “This is a way to open more doors for everyone,” Pakowski said. “We’re here to make the entire picture more affordable for students who choose to come to Aims.”
With some of the lowest tuition rates in Colorado, Aims is committed to affordability. In fact, 91% of its students graduate without student loan debt, providing a sense of financial security.
