Services

Members of the college community can contact the Dean of Students Office to set up a meeting with the Student Advocacy Specialist if they have encountered student behavior that is causing concern via:

• Classrooms
• Lab areas
• Offices
• Field sites
• Email
• Discussion boards
• Online meeting spaces
• Audio-video and conferencing

The Student Advocacy Specialist will act promptly to follow-up with the individual initiating the report; determine if there have been any additional warning signs or reasons for concern, and meet with the student to develop a plan. Our approach will be from a growth and coaching space with the intent of preventing the behavior from escalating into a formal conduct violation. 

Actions taken by the Student Advocacy Specialist could include the following:

• Meeting with the student to discuss behavior of concern and advising the student of possible consequences if behavior is not corrected to comply with college rules and classroom expectations.
• Talking with the faculty or staff member who reported the conduct to discuss how to respond and to share information, resources, and tools that may help in the situation.
• Sharing information with the college safety team or CARE Team to determine whether there have been any previous contacts or concerns and to assess further action.

The Student Emergency Fund (SEF) is for one-time emergency financial assistance (up to $599) for Aims students to meet an unexpected need currently impacting their ability to complete their studies at Aims. It is funded by student fees and provided by the students, for the students.

Criteria

To be eligible, students must be:

1. Enrolled in 6 credits in the current semester
2. In good conduct standing
3. Experiencing an unexpected or unplanned hardship such as a medical issue, accident, dependent care, or emergency such as fire, flood or victim of a crime.

Inclusions 

Expenses covered include costs related to:

• Medical care
• Safety needs
• Replacement of personal items due to fire, theft, or natural disaster
• Dependent care costs

Exclusions

Expenses not covered include:

• Aims tuition and fees
• Books and essential academic expenses
• Non-essential utilities
• Debt/owed payments

Next Steps

The Aims Community College CARE Team will review your application and contact you within four business days.  Eligible students can only receive SEF assistance funds one time for the duration of their enrollment at Aims. Successful applicants are required to meet with a CARE Team member before distribution of financial assistance.

Current students are eligible to receive free counseling sessions in private offices with qualified counselors on the Greeley, Windsor, Fort Lupton and Loveland campuses.
