Sara is a flutist, scholar, and music educator in northern Colorado, where she teaches flute at Aims Community College and works as a communications professional for the arts at the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Schuhardt has performed throughout the world as a soloist and chamber player, and she is passionate about teaching, especially applied flute lessons, music theory, aural skills, and music appreciation.

Her wide-ranging professional interests have also led her not only to perform and teach in a variety of capacities, but also to hold positions in arts leadership, conducting, marketing, writing tutoring, and copyediting. Sara’s dissertation research focused on analyses of musical agency in the flute works of composer Erwin Schulhoff.

In her free time away from the passions of her work, Sara enjoys many of Colorado’s outdoor activities. She has certainly fallen in love with the mountains since moving to the state almost 9 years ago! If Sara is not relaxing at home with a book while drinking coffee or connecting with friends and family, she might be planning an outdoor adventure of hiking, camping, cycling, running, or backpacking. One of her favorite places to be in general is when she is immersed in the beauty of nature.
