Aims Community College has been named a 2026-2027 Military Spouse Friendly® School, earning national recognition for its commitment to supporting military spouses as they pursue higher education and career opportunities.

The designation recognizes colleges and universities that create welcoming environments and provide meaningful resources for military spouses, who often balance education with the unique challenges of military life. Earlier this year, Aims also earned a Gold-Level Military Friendly® School designation, reflecting the college’s broader commitment to serving veterans, active-duty service members and military-connected families.

“Our programming and certification processes at Aims are inclusive of everyone affected by military service, whether they signed a contract or not,” said Dr. Ross Atkinson, Program Manager of Aims Veteran Services. “Without the sacrifice and support of their families, our service members wouldn’t be able to maintain their readiness and resilience. We recognize the spouses who endure the everyday stressors, unknowns and uprooted lives that accompany a military career.”

Since 2009, the Military Spouse Friendly® Schools designation has recognized colleges and universities that provide exceptional educational opportunities and support for military spouses. The annual list is compiled using federal agency data and proprietary survey information from participating institutions. This year, 196 schools nationwide earned the designation.

At Aims, Veteran Services supports veterans, active-duty service members and their families by helping them access education benefits, navigate college resources and achieve their academic goals in a welcoming, respectful environment. The college also fosters a strong sense of community through events and programs such as Veterans Day activities and the Patton Veteran Project film workshop and screenings, where veterans share their stories through creative expression.

“Through the support of our military spouses, we reinforce our mission of ensuring our entire military-connected community feels welcome and supported throughout their academic journey,” Atkinson said.
