Aims Community College Enhances Welding Program with State-of-the-Art Plasma Cutting System

Aims Community College invests in cutting-edge technology to prepare students for the workforce. Earlier this year, Aims purchased and installed an X-Definition Accu-Kut CNC Plasma cutting table manufactured by AKS Cutting System for $315,000.

The X-Definition Accu-Kut CNC Plasma cutting table is located at the Applied Technology and Trades Center on the Greeley Campus.

A high-definition plasma cutting system is a powerful tool used in welding for cutting and shaping metals. It uses a super-hot, precise beam of energy created when gas and electricity are combined to melt different types of metals. This advanced cutting method offers improved accuracy, speed, and versatility compared to traditional cutting techniques.

According to Cody Jones, Department Chair and Professor of Welding Technology, this system is one of the most advanced in northern Colorado. “The technology better prepares students and adds value to future employers.  It furthers our mission to provide state-of-the-art training for welders,” Jones said.

To ensure the highest quality instruction, Aims welding faculty participated in 32 hours of factory training on the new equipment in May, with another 40 hours of training scheduled for December 2023.

Aims students can obtain a Welding Associate Degree or certificates in Metal Cutting and Gouging, Arc Welding Processes, Pipe Welding, Metal Fabrication, and Welding Technician. Welding is offered on the Greeley and Fort Lupton campuses.  Learn how to enter the Welding Technology Program or get more information at aims.co/welding.
