Alquist 3D to Become Inaugural Industry Tenant at Aims Workforce Innovation Center

Aims Community College has signed a five-year agreement with Alquist 3D, a national leader in 3D concrete printing (3DCP) technology, to become the first industry tenant at the Aims Workforce Innovation Center (AWIC).

In addition to being a partner in the AWIC, Alquist 3D donated $25,000 to provide scholarships for students to participate in 3D Concrete Printing Workshops. The AWIC will open in late fall of this year, establishing the first innovation incubator in Weld County and serving as a catalyst for regional economic development and a hub for hands-on, innovative education for local learners.

“We are proud to be the first tenant in the AWIC  building,” said Zachary Mannheimer Founder & Chairman at Alquist 3D. “We know that this is not just for us to do our work, but to create a collaborative space to bring in many other entrepreneurial innovation companies.”

As part of the agreement, Alquist 3D will occupy one of the three available innovation spaces within AWIC, focusing on research and development. The building also includes offices, a dedicated conference room, access to a larger shared conference room and supporting storage areas. Alquist will staff the space with between eight and 20 team members throughout the year, depending on project needs. The company also plans to train and hire Aims students, collaborate with other startups housed in AWIC and help establish the Aims Greeley Campus as a national center for 3D concrete printing education and research.

“Aims is excited for the AWIC to become a reality and thrilled that Alquist is the inaugural industry occupant within the innovation bays,” said Dr. Leah L. Bornstein, Aims Community College CEO and president. “They are a great community partner.”

This agreement further strengthens the relationship between Alquist and Aims. The college worked with Alquist to develop a curriculum and launched a non-credit online certificate course in summer 2024. A weekend hands-on workshop component was first offered in spring 2025. Aims offers these continuing education opportunities throughout the year. More information is available at aims.co/concrete-print

AWIC Construction Update

Construction of AWIC is now underway on the northeast end of the Greeley Campus near 16th Street and 47th Avenue.  A beam signing and topping-off ceremony is planned for this spring.

In addition to the business incubator innovation bays, the building will serve as a high-tech learning laboratory at Aims, with a flexible design that allows people to explore technologies, including virtual and augmented reality tools.

The innovative construction project utilizes a geothermal mechanical system to harness the earth’s internal heat as the primary energy source for direct heating and cooling, powered by a series of vertical wells 500 feet deep. Another sustainable construction feature is the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT), which creates a smaller carbon footprint and is more energy-efficient.

Aims is using all its source materials on this project from the United States. Choosing locally made products is a critical decision that directly impacts budget, timeline and community support.  The CLT is from Alabama, the electrical gear is from Texas and the steel was fabricated in Grand Junction.  Denver-based OZ Architecture designed the space and is leading the project’s architectural vision. Roche Constructors, headquartered in Greeley, serves as the project’s general contractor.
