Follow the steps outlined below to ensure your transfer process goes smoothly.
1. Schedule an Appointment with a Transfer Coach
A transfer coach can guide you through the transfer school selection process, connect you to the appropriate transfer admissions counselor and programs, and help you navigate the transfer and scholarship application processes.
2. Connect with a Transfer Admissions Counselor
Transfer admissions counselors can answer questions and connect you to the right folks across campus throughout the transfer process.
3. Apply for Admission to Transfer Schools
Find out the priority application deadline and submit your application before that date. Click here to find more information about application deadlines for most Colorado four-year colleges and universities, along with information on other regional and online schools.
4. Submit Official Transcripts
Submitting your official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities initiates the process of transferring your credits. You should submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. If you submit transcripts from Aims prior to graduation or while classes are in progress, you will need to resubmit an official transcript once your final grades have been posted. This will ensure that all eligible courses will be transferred by the time you start your first semester.
You can typically get a good idea of course transferability by using Transferology to see how your classes will transfer to your transfer institution; however, an official transfer evaluation will be completed by your transfer school to determine applicability to your declared program of study.
5. Apply for FAFSA (or CAFSA) and Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF)
Even if you believe you may not be eligible for financial aid, it's still important to apply for FAFSA (or CAFSA, the state financial aid application for undocumented, Colorado ASSET students). Some institutions require a completed FAFSA for scholarship consideration. Be sure to include the school codes for the transfer institutions you're considering on your FAFSA (or CAFSA) application. Each school that receives your FAFSA (or CAFSA) will generate an award package, which you can use to make an informed decision about your transfer options.
If you qualify for in-state tuition in Colorado and are transferring to a public Colorado college or university, check to see if you are eligible for the Colorado Opportunity Fund stipend.
6. Begin Searching for Scholarships
Find out what the institutional scholarship priority deadlines are and submit your scholarship application before the deadline for the term you will be attending. Click here for a list of scholarship deadlines for most Colorado colleges and universities.
7. You've Been Accepted!
Once you’ve been accepted, several additional steps vary for each institution. You must activate your student account on your student portal as soon as possible. You should log into your student portal and check your email regularly to make sure you are meeting enrollment and financial-related deadlines before the semester starts.
You will receive communication about registration. Make sure to identify your academic advisor and schedule an appointment to create a plan for when it’s time to register for your first semester of classes.
