Amanda has been teaching science courses since 2013 and joined the concurrent enrollment team with Aims in 2021. Her passion for education began when she became a youth mentor for deaf and hard-of-hearing children where she sought to support, challenge, and inform students and their families about education and American Sign Language (ASL). She later endeavored into the world of science and paired that with her background in education. As a teacher, Amanda enjoys working with students to help them achieve their goals. She also enjoys helping students connect scientific concepts and laboratory skills with life outside of the classroom.
Amanda also worked as a research assistant for several universities and as a laboratory technician in industry. In these roles, Amanda led research projects in the field of Biochemistry. Her favorite research topic is characterizing the structure and function of proteins.
When Amanda is not teaching, she loves spending time outside with her family, catching up on reading and running. Backpacking and camping are her favorite hobbies. Originally from California, Amanda looks forward to exploring more of Colorado.
